Há dias em que ouço os saudosistas do passado a lamentar-se de que “antes é que era bom”. Talvez fosse bom para alguns, mas para a maioria? Nem por isso. E para as mulheres? Muito menos.
Por outro lado, e mais ainda no contexto que temos vivido nos últimos anos – na minha opinião, muito ampliado pelos media, que adoram dar eco a estas vozes pessimistas – fala-se muito da perda das “conquistas de Abril”. Perda das conquistas de Abril? Não! As conquistas de Abril enraizaram-se tanto na nossa sociedade que já não se podem perder.
Muito a propósito, ontem via uma reportagem na SIC sobre como era a vida antes da Revolução dos Cravos, que na sexta-feira passada celebrou o seu quadragésimo aniversário. Tendo nascido já em democracia, a maioria das coisas mencionadas foi, para mim, novidade. O meu queixo caiu várias vezes, nomeadamente com a proibição de casar que algumas profissões tinham: as assistentes de bordo da TAP, por exemplo, só em 1974 conquistaram o direito de contrair matrimónio. As professoras, outro exemplo, tinham de submeter para aprovação o perfil do candidato a marido ao Ministério da Educação, e perdiam a nacionalidade portuguesa no caso deste ser estrangeiro.
Apesar de este ser um processo evolutivo longo, hoje as mulheres já podem casar com quem quiserem, inclusivamente outras mulheres. Parece-me positivo, e se não tivéssemos tido o 25 de Abril há quarenta anos atrás, duvido que isso hoje fosse possível. (Falta ainda legalizar a adopção por casais homossexuais, mas havemos de lá chegar.)
Mas não foram só as mulheres que viram a sua liberdade muito ampliada com a Revolução dos Cravos: também os homens deixaram de ser enviados para uma guerra na qual não acreditavam. E já basta toda uma geração de miúdos, hoje avôs, que voltaram mutilados, doentes, traumatizados. Não há dúvida que hoje estamos melhor que há quarenta anos e uns dias atrás.
Os exemplos de conquistas de Abril que não perdemos, mas cujo óbito adoramos chorar publicamente, são muitos. Mas quero apenas aqui dar mais um, por ser, na minha opinião, muitíssimo significativo: o Serviço Nacional de Saúde, criado em 1979, assegura o direito dos cidadãos ao acesso a cuidados de saúde. E sim, é verdade: tem as suas falhas. Mas são mais as suas virtudes que os defeitos que tem, como os tem qualquer máquina gigantesca.
Quem já viveu em países em que a saúde é privada sabe o que custa qualquer exame médico, desde uma simples análise ao sangue (cara) a uma TAC (muito cara) ou uma cirurgia (exorbitante). E aqui em Portugal, apesar de nos queixarmos das listas de espera, parece que nos esquecemos constantemente que cada minuto do tempo dos profissionais de saúde se paga; que cada agulha e cada seringa se paga; que cada minuto passado a usar um equipamento ou uma sala dos hospitais públicos ou centros de saúde se paga. Queixamo-nos das taxas moderadoras – a palavra “moderadora” tem uma razão de ser – que subiram; do tempo que esperamos por uma consulta; e não nos ocorre pensar que esse acesso a cuidados de saúde, não fosse o SNS, simplesmente não existiria para muitos de nós.
Por estas e muitas outras razões, as conquistas de Abril não se perderam, e é graças a elas que hoje vivemos como vivemos; partilhamos as opiniões que queremos, sem medos; acedemos a medicamentos comparticipados; temos a segurança de que seremos atendidos num hospital público em caso de acidente, sem termos de declarar falência técnica; nós, as mulheres, vestimos calças, casamo-nos com quem queremos, escolhemos as profissões que queremos e acedemos a cargos públicos e privados sem impedimentos devido ao nosso género.
Gosto tanto do meu país, e mais ainda num mês como este, em que o vermelho dos cravos me lembra o caminho que deixámos para trás e o caminho que ainda temos pela frente.
25 de Abril, sempre!
