Mas não é, porque senão procurarmos para além do óbvio, apenas nos limitamos a lidar com dados, números ou imagens estanques.
A viagem foi curta. Lisboa e Malveira são vizinhas de poucos quilómetros, próximas. Nunca eu tinha ido à Malveira. Ouvia falar das trouxas, porque as comezainas são produto de fácil e rápido saber. Os portugueses adoram a sua comida e sabem-na na ponta da língua, quase como uma tabuada… as trouxas da Malveira, os travesseiros de Sintra, as tortas de Azeitão, os pastéis de Chaves, os doces de amêndoa do Algarve, as cavacas Minhotas, o bolo de mel da Madeira… gostosos nomes estes.
Outras coisas há cujos nomes se perdem e muito pouco se sabe sobre elas.
A Latoaria da Malveira ficava em rua incerta… os mapas da internet não a souberam identificar… Arriscámos andar às voltas pela vila, na esperança de um tropeçar ocasional com a Latoaria mas, nada feito. Perguntar, devemos perguntar… está ali uma senhora… encosta, encosta… “Boa tarde, andamos à procura da Rua de Santa Filomena”… “Olhe, tem de ir por ali, por acoli e virar mais além… é a rua que fica por trás dos Bancos… mas o que é que procuram?”… “Procuramos uma Latoaria”… “É do Sr. Faustino… mas olhe que ele não está lá… ele vive ali perto. Quer que lhe diga a casa? Se perguntar no café ali perto eles chamam-no e ele vai lá sem problema.”
Seguimos as indicações, vimos os “Bancos” (era apenas um… certamente já foram mais), estacionámos o carro e seguimos até à Rua de Santa Filomena. A Latoaria estava fechada. Espreitei o quanto pude e investiguei com o olhar os artefactos, as panelas, as cantarinhas, as mesas de trabalho, os materiais e os moldes pendurados. De um lado a oficina, do outro o escritório que também serve de loja. Os contactos do Sr. Faustino estavam escritos na janela da frente (Vitor Faustino, o pai e Paulo Faustino, o filho). Um ofício de pelo menos duas gerações, pensei eu. Anotei os números e parti.
Não fui ao café perguntar pelo Sr. Faustino, não lhe liguei. Resolvi respeitar o seu dia de descanso, que isto de trabalhar com o corpo cansa. Ele merece repousar. Provei as trouxas, trouxe meia dúzia para casa e esperei pelos dias da semana, aqueles que são devotos ao trabalho porque os fins de semana são para respeitar.
Liguei passado uns dias. Falei com Faustino pai que passou a chamada a Faustino filho, “Que estas coisas do negócio já são mais com o meu filho”… falámos e combinámos encontro certo em lugar improvável… “Vou estar por Lisboa, no Pavilhão da Ajuda com o meu filho, vá lá ter comigo e falamos sobre o projecto”… “Sr. Paulo, já estou à porta do pavilhão, tenho uma camisola com uma estrela vermelha, até já”… “Estamos a chegar, estou apenas a estacionar”…
Bastaram 30 minutos de descontraída conversa para que o projecto ganhasse novo alento, porque isto de encontrar Latoeiros não é tarefa fácil! Nem todos trabalham os mesmos materiais, nem todos têm os mesmos moldes. Selámos uma espécie de compromisso e dissemos até breve um ao outro.
É tão fácil a proximidade, a conversa, a troca de conhecimento, a empatia das gentes, a disponibilidade… fui à procura de um ofício em extinção e encontrei mais do que isso, um outro tipo de artesanato, também ele quase extinto… o ofício da vivência sem rodeios, da veracidade espontânea das pessoas, da genuinidade das gentes simples e da sua familiaridade imediata… coisa complexa de encontrar.
